Gleneagles JPMC once again reaffirmed its commitment to developing the nation’s healthcare workforce by awarding a Nursing Scholarship to a student from JPMC College of Health Sciences. The signing ceremony, held at the hospital, was witnessed by Dr Peter Tay, Chief Executive Officer of Gleneagles JPMC, as Guest of Honour, alongside senior officials from the hospital and the college.
This annual scholarship program reflects Gleneagles JPMC’s long-standing dedication to nurturing homegrown nursing professionals. Over the years, the hospital has provided opportunities for nurses to pursue in-service training, advanced nursing courses, and specialisation programs in areas such as intensive and critical care, both locally and abroad. The scholarship recipient, Nurfatin Dania Syahirah binti Siran, will embark on a 3-year course leading to a degree in Bachelor of Sciences in Nursing. at the JPMC College of Health Sciences. Upon successful completion of studies, she will begin her professional career with the hospital.
Dr Peter Tay shared, “While more than 60% of our 240 staff are nurses and allied healthcare professionals, only 40% of our nurses are locals. This is largely due to the specific skills required in cardiac care nursing, which are still limited in Brunei. That is why initiatives such as this scholarship, in collaboration with JPMC College of Health Sciences, are vital in building a stronger pool of local talent.”
Miss Chandra, Director of Nursing at Gleneagles JPMC also added how proud the hospital is to welcome the next generation of nurses. This scholarship program reflects the hospital’s commitment to not only raising professional standards but also creating meaningful career opportunities for Bruneian nurses.
Nurfatin Dania Syahirah expressed how her interest in nursing was sparked at a young age and the passion was further strengthened through volunteering activities and her involvement in her school’s first aid team, where she gained hands-on experience in helping others. She expressed her excitement to continue her journey with Gleneagles JPMC after graduation, noting the warmth and supportive environment she has already experienced at the hospital.
Gleneagles JPMC congratulates Nurfatin Dania Syahirah binti Siran on being awarded the scholarship and looks forward to welcoming her as part of its nursing team in the future.
