Gleneagles JPMC today marked a meaningful milestone in its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) journey by carrying out its first-ever beach clean-up initiative at Jerudong Beach on the 6th of December 2025, held in collaboration with the Beach Bunch. This newly introduced initiative underscores the hospital’s growing commitment to sustainability and its efforts to broaden CSR contributions beyond the healthcare sector.
Led by the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Peter Tay, the clean-up brought together a total of 60 staff volunteers from various departments who were eager to support the cause. The initiative reflects the hospital’s ongoing dedication in promoting environmental stewardship and encouraging positive community engagement among its workforce.
During the clean-up, volunteers successfully collected a total of 418.2kg of trash, ranging from plastic bottles and food wrappers to larger debris. This outcome highlights the impact that collective action can make in preserving Brunei’s natural spaces and reducing pollution along the coastline.
“This initiative reflects the heart of who we are at Gleneagles JPMC; a team committed not only to healthcare excellence, but also to making a positive difference in our community. Seeing so many of our staff volunteer their time today is truly encouraging, and I hope this marks the beginning of many more sustainability-led efforts,” expressed by Dr. Peter Tay.
The collaboration with the Beach Bunch, a well-established local organisation focused on coastal conservation, provided participants with guidance on waste sorting, responsible
disposal, and the importance of preserving Brunei’s shorelines. Through this effort, Gleneagles JPMC aims to set a foundation for more sustainability-focused programmes in the years ahead, aligning with national aspirations for a cleaner and greener environment.
This first beach clean-up marks a significant starting point for Gleneagles JPMC as the organisation diversifies its CSR efforts to include impactful environmental initiatives. The hospital hopes that engagements like these will inspire more staff participation, deepen awareness on environmental responsibility, and build long-term partnerships within the community.
Gleneagles JPMC looks forward to expanding its sustainability footprint through future CSR activities that support the well-being of both the community and the environment.
