Gleneagles JPMC Hosts World Heart Day Brunei Run 2025: “Don’t Miss a Beat”

Gleneagles JPMC proudly hosted yet another Brunei Run event in conjunction with World Heart Day 2025 today at the Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas, Bandar Seri Begawan. The event attracted over 1,200 participants from all walks of life, uniting families, friends, colleagues, and health enthusiasts under a shared commitment to heart health.

The morning commenced with the arrival of committee members and participants and was honoured by the presence of Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Mohd Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance and Economy II, in his capacity as Chairman of Gleneagles JPMC. Also in attendance during the event was Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar, Minister of Health.

Opening the event, Dr. Peter Tay, Chief Executive Officer of Gleneagles JPMC, spoke about the critical importance of World Heart Day in encouraging active living, balanced nutrition, and vigilance for heart disease symptoms. He further noted that the theme ‘Don’t Miss a Beat’ reflects the broader impact of heart health on loved ones and the community at large.

He further shared the hospital’s ongoing initiatives, including the recent launch of the Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) Awareness Campaign, which aims to educate the public on recognising early warning signs of heart attacks and the importance of seeking prompt medical care. “By bringing awareness and encouraging timely action, we hope to save more lives and reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease in Brunei,” Dr. Tay stated, reinforcing the hospital’s commitment to preventive healthcare and community well-being.

The run included the 10km competitive category for Male and Female, the 5km Fun Run, and 2.5km Fun Run, with participants showing great enthusiasm and determination throughout the event.

The winners of the 10km competitive category as below: 10km Male Category:

  • 1st Place: Haqeem Darwish (receiving BND400, 10km finisher medal, 3-month membership at Dynamic Sports Gym and Laneige skincare products hamper)
  • 2nd Place: Mohd Abd Azim (receiving BND300, 10km finisher medal, 1-month membership at Dynamic Sports Gym and Laneige skincare products hamper)
  • 3rd Place: Mohd Adizul Fikri (receiving BND200, 10km finisher medal, 1-month membership at Dynamic Sports Gym and Laneige skincare products hamper)
  • 4th Place: Muhd Zunaidi (receiving BND100, 10km finisher medal, 1-month membership at Dynamic Sports Gym and Laneige skincare products hamper)
  • 5th Place: Mohd Sukri (receiving BND50, 10km finisher medal, 1-month membership at Dynamic Sports Gym and Laneige skincare products hamper)

10km Female Category:

  • 1st Place: Linda Chin (receiving BND400, 10km finisher medal, 3-month membership at Dynamic Sports Gym and Laneige skincare products hamper)
  • 2nd Place: Aida Syazwana Izzati (receiving BND300, 10km finisher medal, 1-month membership at Dynamic Sports Gym and Laneige skincare products hamper)
  • 3rd Place: Tho Siaw Khein (receiving BND200, 10km finisher medal, 1-month membership at Dynamic Sports Gym and Laneige skincare products hamper)
  • 4th Place: Airince Liam (receiving BND100, 10km finisher medal, 1-month membership at Dynamic Sports Gym and Laneige skincare products hamper)
  • • 5th Place: Siti Nur Amirah (receiving BND50, 10km finisher medal, 1-month membership at Dynamic Sports Gym and Laneige skincare products hamper)

Following the race, lucky draw winners were announced consisting of fitness watches, Boeffi T4 treadmill walking pad and Boeffi Fitto Back Massager sponsored by Boeffi, food and beverage vouchers sponsored by The Rizqun Coffeehouse, fitness vouchers sponsored by HSN Fitness, traveling kit sponsored by Peakflow. The prizes were presented by the Guest of Honour. The event concluded with a group photo session, celebrating the participants’ achievements and reinforcing the event’s message of proactive heart health.

Beyond the excitement of the races, the World Heart Day Brunei Run 2025 serves a greater purpose: raising awareness about the importance of maintaining a healthy heart. The event encourages participants and the wider community to adopt active lifestyles, balanced diets, and regular health check-ups, as well as to stay alert to early warning signs of cardiovascular disease.

This year’s World Heart Day theme, “Don’t Miss a Beat,” emphasises the importance of individual responsibility, collective community efforts, and timely preventive action to maintain cardiovascular health.
